Oil India Limited Pipeline Services orgnanised the Saksham Let’s Ride Cycle cyclothons at Guwahati, Nagaon and Tezpur on 30th April 2023 as part of Saksham 2023 cycle day – which saw such cyclothons being organised at more than 300 cities across India.
In Guwahati about 400 participants, from across the city, took part in the event. The venue was OIL Pipeline Headquarters campus at Narengi. The Chief Guest was Mr. Abhijit Borgohain, CGM, PL, Pipeline Headquarters, Oil India Limited who also flagged of the cyclothon in the presence of other senior OIL officials. The cyclists rode for a distance approximately 11 kms approx. A few cycling personalities from Guwahati Mr. Kaushik Guha, Mr. Anirban Choudhary along with Ms. Asha Malvi from Madhya Pradesh who is on an All India cycle tour to spread awareness about women’s safety were felicitated during the event. Zumba artist Ms. Tulsi Rabha along with her team gave a lively performance as a warm-up activity for the cyclists before the ride.
In Nagaon about 170 people participated in the cyclothon. The ride started from Dawson School Playground and participants rode for a distance of 10 kms before concluding the ride at the same venue. Mr. Rajib Sarma, eminent cyclist and state level Hockey player, founder of Nagaon Cyclists along with Ms. Washifa Hazarika, Social Entrepreneur and Cyclist were the eminent guests who came to support and flag off the ride.
Tezpur saw participation of 180 cyclists from across the city and its nearby places. The venue was Church Field from where the ride started and ended. The distance covered by the cyclists was approximately 11 kms. Mr. Mintu Boro – Officer in Charge SADAR THANA, Ms. Lawnita Borah – District Sports Association, President, Sonitpur district and Mr. Nripen Borah – Retired Jailor were the Eminent guests of Tezpur who graced the occasion with their presence.
The events at all the 3 cities were managed by Guwahati based NGO Pedal for a Change with the support of local cycling groups like Guwahati Cycling Community in Guwahati, Nagaon Cyclists in Nagaon and Miles with Cycle at Tezpur. All participants were provided with T-shirts and breakfast along with participation certificates after the ride.
SAKSHAM (Sanrakshan Shamata Mahotsav), an annual public awareness campaign initiated under Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, to urge citizens to participate in fuel conservation for health and environmental protection, as well as to help India reduce its reliance on crude oil imports. The objective of SAKSHAM is to impress the masses for adopting fuel conservation and efficiency measures for environment protection. The theme for 2023 is Energy Conservation towards ‘Net Zero’. Saksham 2023 started on 24th April and will conclude on 8th May 2023.
