General Manoj Mukund Naravane on September 17 reviewed the security situation in Kashmir valley. The Indian Army Chief on Thursday held a series of meetings with the local Army officers in the Valley. He also flew to a couple of locations along the Line of Control (LoC). General Naravane took a firsthand assessment of the security in the frontier region.
General Naravane was on a two-day visit to the valley. He also met Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha at the Raj Bhawan. The meeting was to discuss several important issues relating to the effective management of internal and external security. The main context of the meet was to discuss the attempts at infiltration. Also, the steps to be taken for effectively dealing with terrorist activities.
General Naravane was accompanied by Lt. General YK Joshi, Army Commander, Northern Command. Lt. General BS Raju and GOC of Srinagar based 15 Corps was also with the Army General.
The Srinagar based 15 Corps is also known as Chinar Corps.
General Naravane also interacted with the soldiers deployed in the high altitude areas of the Valley. He appreciated their high morale and also complimented on their response to Pakistan ceasefire violations.
According to Defence Spokesman, Colonel Rajesh Kalia, the General made the recommendation on the use of technology. The use of effective technology will ensure effective day and night surveillance across the LoC. In the recent past, the use of technology has resulted in many successful operations to foil infiltration from Pakistan occupied JK.
The Army Chief also urged the need to extend all possible support to civilians residing in the border areas. The civilians are the victims of the targeted ceasefire violations by the Pakistan Army. Also, they are facing many hardships due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
