The leader of the opposition in Nagaland, T R Zeliang called for North-East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) Convener Himanta Biswa Sarma to discuss the disputed Naga issue.
T R Zeliang, a legislator of NPF on Monday appreciated the idea of the Centre for roping in Sarma to play an active role in resolving the decade-long Naga issue.
He also appreciated Sarma on the activities undertaken by the NPF under the newly-constituted Political Affairs Mission (PAM) to address the contentious issues.
“Sarma involvement in the peace process is a big boon to the Naga people and the North-East people in general. He is someone who understands knows the sentiments of the people in the region.” NPF said in a statement.
NPF hopes that Sarma as a mediator will give his sincere efforts to hammering out the resolution.
He also pointed out the desire of the Naga people for an early solution to the decades-long armed conflict. He hoped for an acceptable solution that would be inclusive and honorable to contribute to the progress and development of the region.
It was further informed that the PAM members will go to Delhi to meet the Collective Leadership of the Nationalist Social Council of Nagalim –Isak-Muviah (NSCN-IM) faction. The delegation is likely to discuss the competency clauses of the peace agreement.
Both Sarma and T R Zeliang came to a consensus that a common and inclusive draft for the solution is necessary.
