The Assam government on Thursday announced that it is going pay Rs 50 lakh as ex gratia to the next of kin of frontline COVID-19 warriors in the event of their death on duty.
The government has initially allocated Rs. 25 crore from the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) in this regard. A notification on this was issued by the State Revenue and Disaster Management Department on Thursday.
The beneficiaries will be the next of kin of doctors, paramedical staff, other employees of the Health department on duty, employees on the duty of private hospitals that have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the State Health department under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY) and Atal Amrit Abhiyan during the outbreak of corona.
The scheme also covers policemen and other government staff on duty, employees of societies/PSUs serving under the State government, journalists on duty, home guards on duty, casual employees of the State government and various societies on duty.
