Assam Government on Tuesday announced that 118,998 mid-day meal workers will get an additional sum of Rs 500 per month. Earlier they used to get a sum of Rs. 1,000. After the new addition sum will now amount to Rs. 1,500.
Assam Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the amount will be paid from April this year and the total sum would be deposited in the bank accounts of mid-day meal workers before the Durga Puja.
In addition to the fund allotted by GOI for Mid-Day Meal Cook-cum-helpers in the state, an additional amount of ₹500 each per month (total ₹59.49 cr) will be provided by GoA with effect from 1st April 2020. Happy.

Sarma also mentioned that it would cost an additional sum of nearly Rs 60 cr annually.
During the press conference, the education minister also mentioned that the state Cabinet has decided to address the issue of over 4,000 teachers who were appointed between 1991 and 2001 in primary schools without following necessary training. Most of those teachers were appointed without training.
Meanwhile, 1,574 teachers would be employed as regular teachers and 2,960 others would be used as tutors.
