Days after a mysterious accident claimed the life of senior journalist Parag Bhuyan, a journalist was tied to an electric post and was beaten up mercilessly by a gang of gamblers in broad daylight at Moniyeri Tiniali under Palasbari Police Station of Kamrup (rural) district on Sunday. The journalist, Milan Mahanta, was rescued by a few conscious citizens who had to intervene.
The FIR filed by Mahanta stated that a gambling den comprising Sanjay Thakuria, Budu Thakuria, and Biswajit Das struck him with sharp weapons. The trio then tied him with an electric post and beat him up mercilessly. They also snatched the golden chain from Milan’s neck. When the three were trying to shift the journalist to another place, a few local people came to his rescue.
A case has been registered under Palasbari Police Station in this regard.
