The Government of India on Saturday has honoured Assam with awards for Best State, Best Quasi Government Organization, Best District and Best Fish Farmer in recognition of commendable work in Fisheries Sector by the Fisheries Department, Government of Assam.
Minister of State for Fisheries & Animal Husbandry Pratap Chandra Sarangi, gave away the awards to the Commissioner & Secretary to Govt. of Assam (Fisheries Department) Rakesh Kumar, District Fisheries Development Officer, Ramendra Ch. Barman, Amal Medhi and the Managing Director (I/C) from Assam while celebrating World Fisheries Day 2020.
The programme for World Fisheries Day 2020 was held at A.P. Shinde Symposium Hall, NASC Complex, Pusa, New Delhi.
Fisheries Department Commissioner, Rakesh Kumar received the “Best State Award” on behalf of the Government of Assam. The award consists cash reward of Rs. 10 lakhs prize money, a certificate, one Shawl and a Memento.
District Fisheries Development Officer, Nagaon Ramendra Ch. Barman, received the award for Best District award and a cash reward of Rs. 3 lakhs.
Amal Medhi received the Best Farmer award under the category of the Hilly States and North Eastern States of India and a cash reward of Rs. 1 lakh.
The Managing Director (I/C), Assam received the Best Quasi Government Organization award and a cash reward of Rs. 5 lakhs.
Minister of Fisheries, Govt. of Assam Parimal Suklabaidya, Minister of Fishery conveyed his good wishes and also congratulated the entire team. He dedicated the achievements to the people of Assam.
It is to be mentioned that Assam bagged four awards for the first time in the fisheries sector from the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying for its outstanding performance.
The programme was attended by Uttar Pradesh Fisheries Minister Lakhi Narayan Choudhury and other dignitaries from the Govt. of India.
