Chief Minister of Assam, Sarbananda Sonowal on Thursday paid his respects to Aideu Handique, the first female actor of Assamese cinema on her death anniversary.
A state icon of Women Empowerment, Aideu Handique became the first actress of Assamese cinema breaking all the bondages of society, overcoming the cultural and social barriers. She will always be remembered as an inspiration for all the women of Assam as well as India.
Born in 1920, the unforgettable icon figure of Assam was from Pani Dihingiya, Golaghat in Assam. She was born to Nilambar Handique and Malakhi Handique.
Taking to Twitter, the State CM wrote, “Aideu Handique, the first women actor of Assamese cinema, is an icon of Nari Shakti. She broke the glass ceiling by overcoming huge cultural & social barriers and remains a constant inspiration. Remembering the legend on her death anniversary.”
