Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Tuesday laid the foundation stone of the Assam Skill University at Mangaldoi in the Darrang district.
Being built at an estimated cost of Rs. 1,000 crore, the university is a first-of-its-kind institute in the northeast. It is scheduled to be ready by September 2026.
The skill university will cater to around 10,000 students from the Northeast across 12 departments and will focus on the Act East Policy to bring investments to Assam.
“This world-class skill university will give a new recognition to Mangaldoi,” CM Sonowal said while speaking at the event.
The spacious campus spreading over 83 acres of land will have advanced features like effluent treatment plant, rainwater harvesting, energy conservation through solar energy.
“State government is also exploring partnership arrangements with countries like Singapore, Germany, Taiwan, South Korea, Australia, Israel, Japan and the United Kingdom for providing sector-specific expertise to ASU,” a government statement stated.
