The Assam assembly election is getting closer day by day and with the first phase of elections due on March 27, the last date of filing nominations for this phase was decided to be March 9. As of the given date, 281 candidates have filed nominations for 47 assembly constituencies in the first phase. The scrutiny of the candidature is currently underway.
The fate of many prominent leaders of Assam will be decided in the first phase of the elections including Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal (Majuli), Congress President Ripun Bora (Gohpur), Lurinjyoti Gogoi (Duliajan and Naharkatia) of the newly formed AJP, Akhil Gogoi (Mariani and Sibsagar), etc.
