Following the incident of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati on Monday a statement was issued that a student named Utsav Kadam had allegedly sexually assaulted a girl student on campus.
The IIT Guwahati has suspended Utsav Kadam from the Institute with immediate effect from 4th April. This order has been recommended by the Students Disciplinary Committee.
Four other students have been isolated from each other on campus and will be retained on campus for further police investigations. There will also be an extensive internal investigation.
The statement has also mentioned that the Institute has been cooperating with the police on the investigation of the sexual assault of the girl student on campus. Utsav Kadam has committed an act that has been considered a serious criminal offense by the judiciary leading to his arrest on 3rd April 2021 by the North Guwahati Police.
As the matter is a very sensitive issue with implications on the future well-being of the girl, IIT Guwahati has requested the media to report responsibly. The institute has also the media not to sensationalize the issue.
