Have you ever notice 112 in your Smartphone when you lock your screen?
To trigger an emergency response, you can dial 112 from phone or press power button on Smartphone 3 times quickly to activate a panic call to Emergency Response Center (ERC).
Similar to United States and many other developed countries, India in 2019 launched a pan-India service of the single emergency helpline number ‘112’. Union Minister Rajnath Singh launched the pan-India service of the single emergency.
Launching decision of 112 services was taken after the most heartbreaking incident Nirvaya in 2012. This number includes police, health service, fire service, child line.
In November 2018, Himachal Pradesh became the first state to roll out the Emergency Response Support System (ERSS), under which there is a single emergency response number across the country — 112.
For smart phones: In any emergency situation, you need to press the power button three times quickly on your smart phones to activate a panic call to the Emergency Response Center (ERC).
For normal phones: You need to long press number ‘5’ or ‘9’ to activate a panic call through your normal phones.
Assam will also soon have 112 which are called as Emergency Response Support System (ERSS). All the emergency services like 100, 101, 1091 will be replaced by 112.
Speaking to Headline 8, a senior Assam Police officials said, “112 emergencies is on under trial. It’s a pilot project. As of now we’re on trial especially in Guwahati city. The operational room is under way at Ulubari. All the operators will operate from that room, where there will be high technology facilities. The 112 system will help us in many ways. Along with us, public will get more easier way to connect with us and get immediate response for any kind of help.
