The counting votes of the much-awaited Assam assembly elections are going on. The counting started at 7 a.m. in the various strong rooms across the state. The counting is going on in full swing under tight security and with strict adherence to COVID protocols.
The fate of 941 candidates will be decided in 126 constituencies of the state today.
Currently first round of counting is going on.
Based on the latest trends at 12:01 pm, the political parties are leading in the following number of seats (status known for 119 out of 126 constituencies):
BJP+: 72
Congress+: 36
AJP+: 0
Others: 8
Meanwhile,
• Rupak Sarmah is leading with 71.99 percent in Nagaon.
• Rockybul Hussain is leading with 52.59 percent in Samaguri.
• Akhil Gogoi is leading with 58.49 percent in Sibasagar.
• Sarbananda Sonowal is leading with 66.4 percent in Majuli.
• In Barhampur, Jitu Goswami is leading with 49.72 percent followed by Suresh Borah with 47.57 percent.
AJP candidate Lurin Jyoti Gogoi is showing poor performance in Duliajan and Naharkatia, with just 17.77 percent and 28.99 percent respectively.
Meanwhile, in Gohpur, Ripun Borah got only 37.15 percent. BJP Utpal Borah is leading with 58.8 percent.
In Nazira, Congress candidate Debabrata Saikia is giving tough competition to BJP candidate Mayur Borgohain.
• Mayur Borgohain is leading with 48.1 percent followed by Debabrata Saikia with 46.35 percent.
