Assam Chief Secretary Jishnu Baruah and DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta held a press meet at the Administrative Staff College in Khanapara to announce the revised COVID SOPs with an aim to control the COVID-19 spread in the state.
Among the new ‘stricter’ curbs, a maximum gathering of 10 people at religious functions and marriages has been announced.

Addressing the media, the Assam DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta warned of strict punishment if the SOPs are violated.
The DGP stated that ‘attempt to murder’ charge will be registered against those organizing functions secretly violating the SOP. Also, the DGP informed that those violating the containment zone norms will be booked either under “attempt to murder” or the Assam Disaster Management Act (ADMA) based on the severity of the situation.
In addition, the DGP also warned of strict action against the gathering of people at a particular place even during the permissible time.
