Assam Police on Friday night seized four godowns of illegal ‘Burmese supari’ in Chirang district.
Four teams of Chirang Police led by the SP Chirang Police, ASP Head Quarter, DSP Head Quarter and SDPO Bijni respectively conducted four different operations.
The four teams seized four godowns of illegal Burmese supari.
As per the information provided, the market value of the seized Burmese supari (betel nuts) is estimated to be about Rs. 10 crores.
Police were successful in arresting the main kingpin Kurban Ali and his 8 associates during the operations.
Incriminating pieces of evidence such as bags with markings of foreign countries like Bangladesh and Myanmar were also seized along with CCTV footages.
“Last night at around 11 pm, four teams of Chirang Police led by the SP Chirang, ASP HQ DSP HQ & SDPO Bijni conducted 4 operations & seized 4 godowns of Burmese Supari market value of which is estimated to be Rs10 crores.” Chirang Police informed in its official Twitter page.
