A group of researchers who have discovered a new ‘jumping spider’ male sex-species, Icius Tukarami, in Kalyan, Thane has named the species after assistant sub-inspector Tukaram Omble, who was responsible for the capture of terrorist Ajmal Kasab in the 26/11 terror attacks in Mumbai.
The researchers first mentioned the term Icius Tukarami in a paper that aims to “describe two newspecies of the genera Phintella and Icius from Maharashtra state of India”.
“The specific epithet is dedicated to a hero of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack, ASI Tukaram Omble AC, who took 23 bullets and captured the terrorist of the attack,” the research stated.
