The considerable pending investigations in cases have left the Police Department concerned. Keeping this in view, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has directed all the OC’s to clear the backlog of cases pending in various police stations.
Thousands of cases, including heinous crimes, have been lying pending in different police stations due to various reasons.
Around 37906 cases are pending in the Police Commissionerate, Guwahati since May 2021.
Dispur police station under Guwahati East police district has the highest case pending. Besides the Dispur police station, Paltan Bazar of Central Police District and Jalukbari under West Police districts are in the row of pending cases.

Whereas, Chief Minister has ordered all the officer-in-charge to give complete charge sheets in all cases of rape, murder, drugs, extortion, and illegal arms pending at their own police station must be submitted within next six months.
However, the state also reported a total of 1,21,609 cognizable crimes in 2020, according to information available on the Assam Police website. But police department has also been suffering from an acute manpower shortage so the police have to give extra hours to deal with the pending cases.
Now, time will say how the OC’s will follow the instruction of CM and completes their pending cases in the coming next 6 months.
