Fake news of Child Lifting (Sopa Dhora) circulating on the social media platforms, regarding instances of dacoity and child lifting in Kokrajhar district of Assam is creating anxiety among the citizens. The Kokrajhar police, however, refuted the social media rumours and said that ‘there’s absolutely no truth in these rumours.

Posting on Twitter, the police issued a notice which read, “It’s to inform the general public that some people with vested interests are propagating misinformation regarding instances of dacoity and child lifting in Kokrajhar. We want to assure the citizens that there’s absolutely no truth in these rumours and request citizens not to amplify such baseless rumours, which might create panic in society.”
