A much-awaited central intervention on the Assam Mizoram border dispute got kickstarted today, with a top-level discussion between Central and Mizo secretaries. A similar discussion with Assam representatives can now be anticipated.
News just in confirms that a meeting between Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla and Mizoram Chief Secretary, Lalnunmawia Chuaungo, and DGP SBK Singh has just got over. The meeting was held in North Block, New Delhi where the Ministry of Home Affairs is situated. Speaking to the media after almost an hour-long meeting, the Mizoram Chief Secretary said that they would be meeting again at 4 PM today.
Apart from the bloodshed along the border, verbal volleys were exchanged between the CMs of the two states, notably on Twitter. Meanwhile, opposition leader Rahul Gandhi had launched a thinly-veiled attack yesterday on Home Minister Amit Shah, pointing out the centre’s inaction on the issue. Closer home, AASU had earlier today termed the violence as a strategic intelligence failure.
