The Chief Minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma accouinced on January 21 that new airport would be built in the Dolu tea garden area near Silchar and the state cabinet will soon take a decision in this regard and would submit a proposal to the Central Government in the next two to three weeks.
Addressing an official programme here the CM of Assam said that the government is committed to the fast paced development of the Barak Valley and has made many iniatives to advance education, health and communication in the region.
The new airport will be constructed on 870 acres of property bought from the tea garden, keeping proctecting the interests of the tea garden labours.
