As part of the Union Budget 2022 the Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman reads the whole budget which also includes the North-eastern Area. A scheme called “Prime Minister Development Initiative for the North East” (PM-DevINE) to be initiated for the North-eastern people which includes total amount of Rs 1500 Crore’s developmental scheme specially meant to “enable livelihood activities for youth and women”.
The new scheme will be implemented through North Eastern Council. North Eastern Council is the nodal agency for the economic and social development of the North Eastern region which consists the 8 states.
“It will fund infrastructure, in the spirit of PM Gati Shakti and social development projects based on felt needs of the Northeast. This will enable livelihood activities for youth and women, filling the gaps in various sectors”, said the Finance minister.
The scheme will include the construction of Aizawl and project ‘bamboo link road’, and electoral inroads in Mizoram, 64 crore to allocate passengers for the ropeway system in West and South Sikkim and establishment of two multi-state projects “dedicated services for the Management of Padiatric and Adult Haemotolymphoid Cancers in North East, Guwahati” and “NECTAR Livelihood Improvement” project.
