The Road Transport and Highways Ministry mentioned that the compensation to the kin of hit-and-run case victims shall be elevated by eight-fold to Rs. 2lakh in case of demise from April 1.
The ministry in a notification mentioned that the solatium to an individual sustaining grievous accidents in a hit-and-run case will enhance to Rs. 50,000 from the present Rs. 12,500. The notification issued on February 25 mentioned that the scheme could also be referred to as the ‘Compensation to Victims of Hit and Run Motor Accidents Scheme’, 2022 and it shall come into power with impact from April 1, 2022.
“This scheme will supersede the sooner Solatium Scheme, 1989 from April 1, 2022, onwards,” the Street Transport and Highways Ministry mentioned in a launch.
“This fund shall be used for offering compensation in case of Hit &Run Accident, remedy for accident victims and another function, as could also be specified by the Central Authorities,” the discharge said.
