Bus fares may go up this time after the skyrocketing price rise of petrol-diesel as well as almost all essential commodities. The All Assam Motor Transport Association has written to the Transport Commissioner to increase fares by 70 percent.
In a letter, the Transport Association mentioned the increase in all taxes on transport traders. The Transport Association stated in the letter that the toll tax has been up by 15 percent since April 1, the third-party premium hike, tires, batteries, and spare parts are all maintaining a continuation of the price rise. In such a situation the country’s transport industry has reached a difficult point.
The Assam government had issued a 25 percent fare hike notice in 2019. But the association mentioned that the fare hike is not going to cut their needs. The association, therefore, said that the transport industry needs to increase passenger vehicle fares in the interest of keeping it alive.
