The Guwahati municipal Election 2022 has finally been conducted on 22nd April peacefully under tight security. After a big gap of 9 years the municipal election has been conducted. The BJP alliance has successfully bagged 58 wards.
A total of 757 polling stations have been set up out of which 60 polling stations will be conducted. This year the battle had many competitors. The AAP (Aap Aadmi Party), the AJP (Assam Jatiya Parisad), the BJP (bharatiya Janata Party) are in the battle.
There was a big chance for the AAP as it has emerged as the strong competitor against BJP. Last month AAP has already emerged as the BJP’s biggest challenger after having their 1st victory in the two Municipal wards of Lakhimpur and Tinisukia. Unfortunately the AAP has won just 1 ward.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its ally, the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), recorded a near-clean sweep in Assam’s Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) elections. The alliance won 58 out of the total 60 seats, with the BJP winning 52 wards while the AGP securing six.
Meanwhile, the Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) has also won 1 ward.
It is also mentioned that 3 wards that were ward 5, 6 and 22 won uncontested.
The prime Minister of India has expressed his gratitude to the people of guwahati. Modi wrote on Twitter,
“Thank you Guwahati! The people of this lovely city have given a resounding mandate to @BJP4Assam to build on the agenda of development. They have also blessed the hardwork of the state government under CM @himantabiswa. My gratitude to every BJP Karyakarta for the hardwork.”
