Former Japanese Prime Minister Abe Shinzo’s tragic death shocked and saddened the Prime Minister.
PN Modi also emphasised his friendship and association with Mr Abe, as well as his enormous contribution to elevating India-Japan relations to the level of a Special Strategic and Global Partnership.
As a mark of deep respect for Abe Shinzo, Shri Modi declared one day of national mourning on July 9, 2022. The Prime Minister also posted a photo from their most recent meeting in Tokyo.
The Prime Minister stated in a series of tweets:
“I am shocked and saddened by the tragic death of one of my closest friends, Shinzo Abe.” He was a towering global statesman, a brilliant leader, and a brilliant administrator. He dedicated his life to improving Japan and the world.”
“My relationship with Mr Abe dates back many years. I got to know him during my time as Gujarat Chief Minister, and our friendship continued after I became Prime Minister. His keen insights into the economy and global affairs have always left an indelible impression on me.”
Former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, 67, was shot while giving a campaign speech in Nara city on Friday morning and died a few hours later in hospital.
Modi described Abe as a “towering global statesman, outstanding leader, and remarkable administrator” and called him one of his “dearest friends.” “He dedicated his life to improving Japan and the world,” said Modi.
