The Assam floods situation remained dire on Friday, with nearly nine lakh people affected across 11 districts. The death toll rose to 190 as the monsoon raged on.
According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority’s (ASDMA) daily flood report, 8,88,177 people are currently affected in Bajali, Cachar, Chirang, Dibrugarh, Hailakandi, Kamrup, Karimganj, Morigaon, Nagaon, Sivasagar, and Tamulpur.
In contrast, three people, including a child, have been killed in the last 24 hours. Two people drowned in Cachar and Nagaon districts, and one died in Hailakandi due to a landslide. With this, the death toll from this year’s floods and landslides in the state has risen to 190.
According to the ASDMA report, Cachar remains the worst-affected district, with over 5.63 lakh people affected, followed by Morigaon and Nagaon, which have nearly 1.52 lakh and 1.45 lakh people affected, respectively.
According to the ASDMA report, up to 620 villages are still underwater, and over 14,402 hectares of cropland have been inundated. Authorities have set up 173 relief camps in 10 districts, where 75,185 people have sought refuge.
Massive erosions have been reported in Barpeta, Biswanath, Bongaigaon, Darrang, Majuli, Morigaon, Nalbari, Tamulpur, Tinsukia, and Udalguri. Also, landslides have been reported in Hailakandi and Karimganj in Southern Assam.
Flood waters have damaged embankments, roads, and other infrastructure in Karimganj, Dhemaji, Dibrugarh, Morigaon, Sivasagar, Barpeta, Kamrup, and Majuli.
According to the report, the deluge affected 1,42,173 domestic animals and poultry across four districts.
