The Supreme Court has set Vijay Mallya’s sentence for transferring $40 million of the Diego Agreement to a foreign account of his child and not providing proper details of the property.
It may be recalled that Mallya, who had siphoned off thousands of crores of rupees from the bank, not only gave wrong information to the court about transferring money to foreign accounts but also contempted the court for the past five years without appearing in court.
Vijay Mallya was convicted of contempt by the Supreme Court in 2017. On February 10, the Supreme Court adjourned the hearing and gave Mallya his last chance to defend himself but no lawyer from his side appeared to discuss the punishment.
