Neeraj Chopra secured 2nd position and won the silver medal in the men’s javelin throw final at the World Athletics Championships held in Eugene, Oregon. The athlete registered the win at his fourth attempt. The gold medal was secured by Anderson Peters from Grenada with a best throw of 90.54m.
Peters threw 90.21m at his first attempt and then and his second was 90.46m. He then got the best attempt at his sixth attempt. The bronze medal was secured by Jakub Vadlejch from Czech Republic’s with a best throw of 88.09m.
Neeraj Chopra is the second Indian and the first man to secure a medal at the World Athletics Championships. The first medal was won by long jumper Anju Bobby George, who secured a bronze medal in the year 2003.
The other Indian in the group, Rohit Yadav finished 11th position in the competition overall with a best throw of 80.42m.
Neeraj Chopra won the maiden gold in the Tokyo Olympics last year. He is the only second Indian to secure an individual gold medal in the Olympics, after shooter Abhinav Bindra. Bindra secured gold in 2008 Beijing Olympics.
