Taliban urge Hindu, Sikh minority people to return back to Afghanistan
The Taliban has urged its minorities, Hindus and Sikhs, to return to Afghanistan, claiming that security has been restored.
The assertion comes after Dr. Mullah Abdul Wasi, Director General of the Taliban’s Office of the Minister of State, met with a number of members of Afghanistan’s Hindu and Sikh Council.
He reminded all Indian and Sikh compatriots who fled the country due to security concerns that they can now return to Afghanistan because security has been restored.
According to ANI, the Taliban-led Afghan government has decided to renovate Kabul’s Gurdwara Karte Parwan, which was damaged in a terror attack in June of this year. More information can be found in this video.
According to the Taliban, Sikh leaders thanked the Taliban for preventing the Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISKP) attack on the Kabul Gurdwara.
On June 18, the Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISKP) attacked Kabul’s Karte Parwan Gurdwara. Two people were killed in the deadly attack, including a Sikh.
According to sources, when the attackers entered the gurdwara complex, approximately 25 to 30 people were present for their morning prayers. Around 10-15 people were able to flee, but the assailants killed the Gurdwara’s guard
Afghanistan’s religious minorities, including the Sikh community, have been targets of violence.
Last October, 15 to 20 terrorists stormed a Gurdwara in Kabul’s Kart-e-Parwan District and tied up the guards.
In March 2020, a deadly attack occurred at the Sri Guru Har Rai Sahib Gurudwara in Kabul’s Short Bazaar area, killing 27 Sikhs and injuring several others. Terrorists affiliated with the Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attack.
Meanwhile, the Taliban-led Afghan government has decided to renovate Kabul’s Gurdwara Karte Parwan, which was damaged in a terror attack.
According to sources, a high-level delegation from the Ministry of Interior (MoI) paid several visits to the Gurdwara to express condolences to the victims’ families.
A technical team was also assigned to assess the extent of damage to the capital city’s last functioning Sikh Gurdwara. The government has revealed that it will spend 7.5 million Afghani to renovate the building.
