The Assam Electronics Development Corporation (AMTRON) will reach a new milestone on August 9
when Assam’s Information Technology Minister Keshab Mahanta launches the ‘AMTRON Drone School’
at the Tech City in Boragaon.
AMTRON initiated the proposal to establish the first DGCA authorised Drone Pilot Training School in
Tech City and received approval from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) in July of last year
to begin the Remote Pilot Training School.
With Wednesday’s launch, the North-East will get its first Remote Pilot Training School, ushering in a
new era of education and technology. The establishment of such schools will provide new opportunities for the youth of the North-East, providing them with a vision of how to use technology for the betterment of society.
Drone technology, like any other technology, will open up a plethora of opportunities for the youth of
the North-East because they will be trained by the best in the industry.
EduRade, a Government of India-recognized start-up incubated at IIT Guwahati and IIM Calcutta
Innovation Park, is joining hands in the venture as its training partner, having trained numerous youths
on emerging technologies in premier institutions such as IITs and NITs.
It boasts a number of trainers who have been certified by the DGCA to conduct the Drone Pilot License
Training Programme.
The first DGCA-approved drone training school in the country opened in Haryana in 2021, and the
country currently has 23 Drone Schools registered. With the opening of this school in Guwahati, Assam has earned a spot on India’s drone map.
AMTRON has acquired two micro categories (2 kg and 1 kg) for the school and two indigenous small category (2-25 kg) drones. In addition, two model agri drones (small category 2-25 kg) for agricultural purposes will be assembled at Tech City soon. The work is being done as part of the Tech City Project.
