Congress prepares to choose a new party leader
Shashi Tharoor, a senior Congress leader, is the first person to formally enter the race for the party’s presidency, according to NDTV. The nomination period for the position will run from September 24 through September 30, according to party leaders. Election day is scheduled on October 17, 2022.
History beckons the party as a struggle for the position of Congress president is all but guaranteed. This would be the fourth time since Independence that polls would determine its leader. Additionally, after more than 24 years, a non-Gandhi will be in charge when Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra decided not to run for party president.
Ashok Gehlot, the chief minister of Rajasthan, has declared his candidacy for the position of party leader, while Shashi Tharoor has also made his intentions known by arranging for the collection of nomination papers on Saturday.
The Congress has said that no other party has an internal democracy like its own, and that it is the only one with a central electoral body conducting organisational polls.
