Confirming on a new development, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, the founder of Art of Living and a spiritual leader, gave solar lamps worth Rs. 1 crore to the state’s rural districts in an effort to give the populace an affordable and healthy lighting option.
“On the 18th of this month, solar lamps worth 1 Crore have been donated by the @ArtofLiving to light homes in remote areas of Assam. The Hon. CM @himantabiswa has most graciously accepted to have them distributed”, Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar wrote in a Twitter post.
The Art of Living has reached remote settlements like Anjaw in Arunachal Pradesh, which can only be reached on foot, and river islands in Assam through the ‘Lighthouse’ campaign. More than 90,000 people in rural areas now have access to solar-powered lighting solutions, and many of them now have job prospects.
