News Desk: On Monday, several youths in Balijan of Digboi came together and staged a semi-naked protest on a bridge along the Digboi-Duliajan road. The semi-naked protestors demanded the immediate release of Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) leader Akhil Gogoi. Shouting slogans against the state government they also demanded proper treatment for the peasant leader and his colleagues.
The enraged youths said, “The state government should release Akhil Gogoi and other KMSS leaders immediately and withdraw every charges imposed against them.”
They also added, “We will hit the streets if anything goes wrong with the peasant leader.”
The group of youths also claimed that the government is neglecting the deteriorating health of Akhil Gogoi and was denied proper medical treatment.
Meanwhile, the KMSS leader Akhil Gogoi is undergoing treatment at Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) after he was tested positive for COVID-19.
It needs to be mentioned that Ahom Sena of the Tinsukia district unit has been staging an indefinite hunger strike since Thursday in Digboi’s Pengri area. Ahom Sena’s District President, Joint Secretary, and many others have staged an indefinite hunger strike demanding the release of the KMSS leader.
