News Desk: Indian Institute of Technology-Delhi has developed a COVID-19 test kit by the name of “Corosure.” The test kit, Corosure, has been termed as the most affordable probe free RT-PCR based Covid-19 diagnostic kit in the world.
The base price of the test kit is Rs. 399, the cheapest in the World. It is believed that the test kit may help bolster Coronavirus testing in the country.
“The base price of the RT-PCR assay is ₹399. Even after adding the RNA isolation and laboratory charges, the cost per test will be considerably cheaper compared to currently available kits in the market”, IIT-Delhi informed.
The low-cost swab testing was commercially developed by a company named NewTech Medical Devises after obtaining a license from the IIT. Two million testing kits will be manufactured by next month, Newtech Medical Devises said.
Union Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank and Minister of State (HRD) Sanjay Dhotre on Wednesday launched the test kit.
“In line with the Hon’ble PM Shri @narendramodi ji’s vision, I along with MoS for HRD Shri @SanjayDhotreMP, will be e-launching the world’s most affordable probe free RT-PCR based #COVID19 diagnostic kit, COROSURE, developed in the labs of @iitdelhi tomorrow. #AatmaNirbharBharat,” the minister informed in a tweet.
