News Desk: The Assam Government on July 24, took a series of steps to support the people of Assam during the COVID-19 pandemic. The state government has extended financial assistance to people who are extended outside Assam and could not return back to Assam.
The Health and Family Welfare Department of Assam has decided to reduce the number of days of home quarantine period from 14 days to 7 days. Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that after discharge from the hospital, the COVID-19 patients will have to stay in home quarantine for 7 days instead of 14 days.
The state government will also provide essential items worth Rs. 2000 for quarantined families. This benefit is entitled only for families Below Poverty Line (BPL). However, the Deputy Commissioners are authorized to extend the benefit to other families too like elderly, ailing, and specially-abled people. Essential items worth Rs. 2000 will be provided to more than 1.12 Lakh families all across the state.
