Drug peddler shot in police firing at Diphu

Diphu, 17, January: A drug peddler was injured in firing by the Assam police when he allegedly tried to flee the police custody in Diphu, Karbi Anglong. A team of policeman intercepted a truck coming from Manipur around 1:30 A.M. in Bokajan area, under the Khatkhati police station, acting on a tip-off police arrested two persons named Amir Hussain and Chalao Rahman. Heroin worth around 20 crore has been recovered. The two planned to deliver the contraband to a nearby area, said the police officer.

Amir Hussain, one of the drug dealers complained of uneasiness while taking to the delivery point, was brought out of the vehicle. The suspect tried to escape and the police personnel fired aiming the leg of the suspected drug dealer. The condition of the suspect is quite stable now after the man has been admitted to the Diphu Medical College and hospital.

At least 115 soap boxes containing 1.6 kg of heroin were recovered from the truck during the operation.
