A man named Hridoy Kalita was arrested by the Assam police on Thursday for alleged links with Maoist groups. Kalita was arrested from his residence Choygaon in Guwahati city.
It is mentioned that an investigation has been conducted after the arrest of Maoist Central Committee leader Arun Kumar Bhattacharya alias Kanchan Da last month. After all the investigation Kalita found to get linked with Maoist and was arrested by the police.
Kalita is currently being interrogated by the crime branch.
The Chief Minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma had stated on Wednesday that said there is a resurgence of Maoists trying to establish a base in Assam and the state police is effectively tackling it.
The Guwahati Police commissioner Harneet Singh said that there are over 200 cases registered against the 70 years old maoist leader. He also added that the core maoist committee member also had a huge bounty on his head.
