For the first time post-independence, a woman convict Shabnam will be hanged to death for murdering seven members of her family in Amroha, Uttar Pradesh. The execution will take place at the country’s only execution room in Mathura. The date of the execution is not fixed yet.
Shabnam is one of the two convicts in the heinous Amroha murder case. Shabnam along with her lover Salim brutally murdered seven members of her family with an axe in April 2008.
A sessions court had earlier sentenced the duo to death. However, in 2010, they challenged the Sessions court’s verdict in the Allahabad High Court which was upheld. Both of them then approached the Supreme Court but the top court in 2015 upheld the death sentence.
