20 March is significant in the history of Assamese cinema. This day is important because the first Assamese film Joymoti by Jyotiprasad Agarwala was opened for the public 20 March (Wednesday) 1935.
The film was released at the Axomiya Theatre Hall (now, Kumar Bhaskar Natyamandir. Uzan Bazaar Guwahati. The film ran consecutively till 14 April with shows daily from 6 PM and 9 PM. It was specifically mentioned in the newspaper advertisement :
“The advance tickets will be sold from 9 AM to 11 PM.
Tickets Prices: Reserve: Rs 3, First Class: Rs 2, Second Class: Rs 1,
Third Class: 50 Paisa, Fourth Class: 25 Paisa
