‘Inside the Burning’ Discovery’s Baghjan Gas Leak Series Premieres Today

The Baghjan oil field leak that took place on May 27, 2020, in the Tinsukia district of Assam rocked the already pandemic hit country.  The oil field leak in Baghjan that subsequently led to a wellhead fire on June 9 continued for 172 days and was finally killed through snubbing on November 15.  The blowout resulted in huge damage to property, life, wildlife, and the environment.

India’s leading aggregated real-life entertainment network Discovery has shot an investigative documentary titled ‘Inside the Burning’ that narrates the story of the tragedy through the lens of the men and women who were on the frontlines.

The two-part documentary will be premiering on the Discovery channel and the Discovery+ streaming platform on Saturday and Sunday at 7:30 PM.

The documentary will showcase stories of the brave firefighters, engineers, and technicians, who worked round-the-clock, putting their lives in danger. It also highlights OIL’s (Oil India Limited) crucial role in the rescue operations. Using graphical illustrations to simulate the inner working of well number five, the documentary gives audiences an x-ray view into the technical conditions that led to the leak.
