As his film “RRR” continues to make waves in the Western markets, filmmaker SS Rajamouli has won the best director award at the New York Film Critics Circle. The New York Film Critics Circle (NYFCC) announced the winners on its social media platforms on Friday night. The official “RRR” Twitter account also announced Rajamouli’s win at the film gala.

After Rajamouli was named Best Director by the New York Film Critics Circle, lead actor Jr NTR congratulated him on Twitter. NTR stated, “Congratulations Jakkanna @ssrajamouli. This is just the beginning of your journey to worldwide glory. It’s time for the world to know what I knew about you all along (sic).”
On her Instagram stories, Alia Bhatt also expressed her delight at the news. She also responded to the news on Twitter with a heart emoji. The actress appeared in RRR as a cameo. Sita was her character’s name, and she was paired with Ram Charan.
Will RRR be nominated for an Oscar?
The New York Film Critics Circle award for RRR has also sparked speculation about whether this is a precursor to SS Rajamouli winning the Oscar as well. Many people congratulated Rajamouli on winning the coveted award, and many of his supporters hope that he will write history by winning the world’s most prestigious film award. Meanwhile, RRR has been nominated for an Oscar in several categories for next year. It was not sent as India’s official entry for the Academy Awards, but it will now compete in the general category.
