Uncertainty of Lock-down: Will We Survive?

Lockdown! This word stills fear and panic into the hearts of every suffered soul. After the sudden outbreak of Covid19, the world governments issued a total shutdown of every institution in 2020. People lost their lives, their jobs, their daily bread and, many even lost their will to continue their lives during this pandemic. In short, it was a dark time for the entire human race.
The government took various policies and even prepared vaccines to fight the virus. It brought the situation under control. Unfortunately, once again, the plight of Covid19 is taking a horrific turn. Moreover, this time a new variant of Covid19 known as Omicron is wreaking havoc. Considering the current alarming surge of the virus, it is only natural for the general mass to panic and be warry of another lockdown.
The State government of Assam has cleared the confusion of any lock-down. On the other hand, an exclusive report by Headline 8 discovered the fear and confusion in the minds of the general public regarding the horrific rise of Covid-Omicron cases and the uncertainty of lock-down. During this visit to the field, individuals from various backgrounds expressed their views on this issue. While some conveyed their pitiful plight during the lock-down, some showed disapproval of any more lock-down. But the question remains.
Will there be another lock-down?
Will the dark times be back?
How will the general mass survive?
How will one provide for his family?
Even if the government denies any possibility of lock-down and assures of the current Covid-19 situation, the situation of the virus remains uncertain and dreadful. An atmosphere of tension envelopes the families who hardly survived the previous Covid waves. They were just settling down the debts and aiding their sick. Another similar situation will break the backbone of thousands of families and pull them down to the ground.
One more lock-down will take the life out of us. We will not survive because we cannot if such a situation repeats.” This was said by a street vendor when we asked him about the situation he is in now. ‘Every announcement of SOP by the government fills our hearts in fear and despair,” he further added.
Covid-19 has long brought many out of their comfort zones and shattered their dreams. People have lost their comfortable jobs and have taken jobs just to be able to feed the family . Such is the plight of many.
People are dying not just by the virus but also since they couldn’t fulfill their promises; the promise to provide food, cloth and shelter for the family.
Being among them, one thing was clear to us that another lock-down will take away everything from them.
