National Desk: To discuss the current situation on the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Eastern Ladakh, the Defence Minister of India, Rajnath Singh will meet Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Bipin Rawat and the other three Service Chiefs.
The meeting which will be held today would also review the overall security situation.
During a media briefing on Thursday, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson, Anurag Srivastava said that “The diplomatic and military officials of both sides will continue their meetings to take forward the process of disengagement and de-escalation as agreed to by the Special Representatives. The next meeting of the Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination on India-China border affairs (WMCC) is expected to take place soon.” His remarks came as the first phase of disengagement between armies of India and China along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Eastern Ladakh has been completed. Talks for the second phase are expected to begin soon in the next few days.
Ajit Doval and Chinese State Councilor and Minister of Foreign Affairs Wang Yi are the Special Representatives of India and China on the Boundary Question. They had a ‘frank and in-depth exchange’ during a telephonic conversation. Both the representatives agreed that both sides should complete the ongoing fallback process along LAC with speed and efficiency.
They re-affirmed that both sides should strictly respect and observe the LAC and should not take any unilateral action to alter the status quo and work together to avoid any incident in the future that could disturb peace and tranquillity in border areas. Ajit Doval, National Security Advisor (NSA) is personally monitoring the India-China border situation continuously with the Indian Army, and the standoff between troops of the two countries is expected to resolve soon.
