News Desk: Thanks to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Delhi is all set to inaugurate India’s largest COVID-19 facility this week. Amit Shah has persuaded the medical personnel of Indo-Tibetian Border Police to run India’s biggest facility for COVID-19 patients in South Delhi. The facility is being set up in South Delhi’s Chattarpur region. The facility, which is being named Sardar Patel COVID Care Centre and Hospital is reported to be the size of 15 football grounds. The hospital facility can accommodate nearly 10,200 patients.
A senior Home Ministry official while announcing the inauguration of the COVID-19 centre said: “ This would be 10 times bigger than the field facility for COVID-19 patients that was temporarily set up in China’s Leishenshan to accommodate 1,000 patients.”
Earlier this month, Home Minister Amit Shah asked Lt. Governor of Delhi Anil Baijal to reach out all voluntary sectors to help Delhi Government to rapidly expand its capacity to accommodate and treat COVID-19 patients.
According to various sources, Amit Shah requested the ITBP personnel to help run the COVID centre. It is estimated that it will require 800 general doctors, 10 special doctors and 1400 nurses to smoothly run the 10,200-bed COVID-19 centre. The facility has come in the wake of the Delhi Government’s projection of COVID-19 cases. It is estimated that the case count is expected to reach 1 Lakh by the end of June. The city administration estimated that they would need about 15,000 more beds to treat the patients.
