Guwahati, 15 June: An earthquake measuring 4.4 on the Richter scale struck near Gujarat’s Rajkot at 12:57 pm on Monday. This was reported by the government’s nodal agency for monitoring seismic activity in the country, the National Center for Seismology (NCS).

The epicenter of the earthquake is located 82 km away from Rajkot as reported in the website of the National Center for Seismology (NCS). No damage has been reported by the government.
This is the third earthquake in the region in the last 24 hours. On Sunday evening Rajkot felt jolts at around 8:13 pm which measured 5.5 on the Richter scale. This was followed by a 3.1 magnitude aftershock six minutes later.

“Entire Saurashtra and north Gujarat regions, including Ahmedabad, felt the impact of the quake. The aftershock was of lower intensity. There is no report of any major damage to life and property from any area after the quake,” Deputy Chief Minister of Gujarat Nitin Patel told news agency PTI.

Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani held telephonic conversations with the District Collectors of Kutch, Rajkot and Patan to take note of the situation. These were the regions where the earthquake was felt and tremors were reported. The officials had been instructed to report damages and activate disaster management calls if needed.
