News Desk: The Indian Railways has created yet another record by operating the longest ‘Freight train’. The super-long train is named ‘SheshNaag’, and it is the longest train ever to run on Indian Railways.
The South East Central Railway zone of Indian Railways recently operated the SheshNaag Train service. The 2.8 Km long train is an amalgamation of four empty BOXN rakes and is powered by four sets of electric locomotives with a capacity of 6000 Horsepower each.
On Thursday, the 2.8 Km long train with 251 wagons was plying between Nagpur division to Korba. This unique experiment was done to save time in freight. SheshNaag completed its journey of 260 Kilometers in about 6 hours.
It is worth mentioning that on June 30, the Indian Railways had run a 177-coach freight train named ‘Super Anaconda’. It is a big leap in reducing the transit time of Freight trains. The ‘Super Anaconda’ train run by joining 3 loaded trains with a total load of more than 1,5000 Tonnes through Bilaspur division to Chakradharpur division.
Last month, the Western Railway Zone of Indian Railways has also commissioned the first high rise OHE. It was the first time for the Indian Railways to commission the high rise OHE with a contact wire height of 7.57 meters and is a first amongst all Zonal Railways to successfully run double-stack containers in electrified territory. This initiative is likely to give a boost to the Green India mission as the latest green initiative over the rail network.
