NEWS DESK: According to the National Weather Forecasting Centre/Regional Meteorological Centre, New Delhi of the India Meteorological Department (IMD), rainfall distribution & intensity is very likely to increase over the northern and northeastern parts of the country from 18th& 19th July respectively.

Isolated heavy to very heavy falls is very likely to occur over Northwest India during 18th – 20th July, 2020, and over Northeast & adjoining East India during 18th -21st July.

Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim and Assam & Meghalaya are also expected to receive isolated extremely heavy falls during 19th- 21st July and Arunachal Pradesh during 19th-20th July.

The intense spell of rainfall is predicted due to the shift of the monsoon trough (lying to the South of its normal position) northward gradually towards the foothills of the Himalayas from July 18.

In addition, the convergence of moist southerly/southwesterly winds from the Bay of Bengal over the Northeast & adjoining East India and from the Arabian Sea over Northwest India at lower tropospheric levels is very likely from July 18.

It may accentuate existing flood conditions and also lead to landslides in some areas of Northeastern states and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal &Sikkim.
