Mahindra Scorpio N scores a 5 star rating in Global NCAP

Mahindra Scorpio N

The Mahindra Scorpio N received a 5-star safety rating in the most recent Global NCAP crash tests, which were conducted using updated safety protocols. The SUV is the first ladder-frame vehicle to receive this rating. It received five stars for adult safety and three stars for child protection.

The Scorpio-N scored 29.25 out of 34 in the adult occupant safety test and 28.94 out of 48 in the child occupant protection test. It also scored 16 out of 17 in the side impact test, with a deformable barrier and an OK rating in the side pole impact test, as required by the new test protocols.

The child occupant protection test yielded 28.93 points (out of 49), which included 4.93 points out of 12 for the CRS (Child Restraint System) installation and a maximum dynamic score of 24.

The NCAP tests also show that the Scorpio-N provides excellent neck protection while only providing marginal chest protection to the driver and passenger. The findings also highlighted the bodyshell and footwell’s stability. After the Mahindra XUV300 and Mahindra XUV700, the Scorpio-N is Mahindra’s third SUV to receive a 5-star safety rating.

However, considering the fact that the Scorpio N was tested under the new protocols, which are stricter than the previous ones. This would make Scorpio N’s 5-star rating rank a notch higher than the XUV 700’s 5-star score. Furthermore, these findings force us to reconsider the commonly held belief that body-on-frame SUVs are (highly) vulnerable in terms of safety—they are not!

The Scorpio N excels in terms of specifications and performance. The SUV, which is positioned in the D segment, is available with petrol and diesel engines, as well as manual and automatic transmissions. On higher trims, an advanced AWD system is available. Since its release, the Scorpio N has received rave reviews. 25,000 units with enticing introductory prices were sold out in less than a minute. Demand remains high, and deliveries are being delayed.
