Meghalaya Government imposes lockdown in areas adjoining Guwahati

Guwahati: In view of the number of corona virus infected patients increasing at an alarming rate and the start of the 14- day lockdown in Guwahati, the Meghalaya Government on Tuesday decided to impose lockdown in the areas bordering Guwahati. The areas include- Byrnihat, Jorabat and Khanapara.

“Government has decided that the locations in Meghalaya bordering Guwahati that is, Byrnihat, Jorabat till Khanapara will be under lockdown due to the surge in Covid-19 cases in Assam”, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma tweeted.

The Chief Minister further went on to add that the inter-state movement will continue to be “restricted”, and also informed that the Deputy Commissioner will issue the essential orders accordingly.

The decision was taken today at a meeting held in the capital city of Shillong. The meeting was chaired by the Chief Minister and a number of discussions and deliberations were held.

The Kamrup Metropolitan district has seen a significant rise in novel corona virus positive cases in this month. Guwahati city reported 195 cases in the last 24 hours.
