NFR Runs Its First Train With Electric Locomotive Up To NJP Junction

National Desk: The Indian Railways (IR) took another massive march towards their quest for 100% percent electrification of its network. The Indian Railways recently operated the Delhi – Dibrugarh Brahmaputra Mail on electric traction up to Jalpaiguri. The Delhi – Brahmaputra Mail also becomes the first North Frontier Railway owned train to run on electricity from Delhi to New Jalpaiguri Junction, instead of Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Junction. This achievement by NFR will save them about ₹ 20.4 Crores annually

The Ministry of Railways on their official Twitter handle stated: “Another stride towards 100% electrification of Railways:
05956/55 Delhi-Dibrugarh Brahmaputra Mail becomes the first North Frontier Railway owned train to run on electric traction from Delhi up to New Jalpaiguri Jn, instead of Din Dayal Upadhyaya Jn, thus saving Rs20.4Cr annually.”
New Jalpaiguri has been recently electrified by Indian Railways under its expedition to attain a 100% electrification programme.

Brahmaputra Mail and other trains from North-East India used to get changed from diesel traction to electric traction at Deen Dayal Upadhaya Junction (earlier known as Mughalsarai Junction) in Uttar Pradesh. But now, with the electrification done, the electric trains can go up to the New Jalpaiguri Junction, all-electric can go up there instead of being changed at Deen Dayal Upadhaya Junction. The total distance between the two stations is about 700 Km. Thus saving around ₹ 20.4 Crores annually on fuel consumption.
